Pod espresso machine

So, you are ready to say goodbye to your filter coffee machine and get an espresso maker, however what is the best pod espresso machine on the market? Delonghi, Krups, Keurig, Nespresso... there are some big names, and some even bigger advertising budgets. In my opinion, the best pod espresso machine would have to be Nespresso.

Have the charms of George Clooney and John Malkovitch won me over to their pod espresso machine? No. The truth is that it does make exceptionally good coffee, in the most convenient possible way.  It is certainly one of the most attractive ranges of pod espresso machine, and it looks the business. It is also probably the most well known thanks to some clever advertising people and George. It is easy to use, quick to reach pressure and temperature, and the 15 pod internal waste bin is a nice touch. The pressure is also higher than many of the standard 15 bar, offering 19 for that extra special espresso.

Filling up the machine is easy with a detachable water flask. Filling a pod espresso machine with a jug is not always the easiest of tasks. It comes with a good selection of extra features such as an attachment for frothing milk, for just a little more cash. The range of coffee available is excellent, with some fantastic blends sufficient to please any coffee connoisseur. It is best suited to single shots as doubles can start to go cold a little too quickly.

The Nespresso pod espresso machine range starts at around $200 and runs to a little over $800 for the top of the range machine. This puts it at the expensive end of the single serve market.  The coffee comes in at around 35 cents a cup, which is much better than $4 in a coffee shop. It is however ten cents more than the Krups Nestlé Dolce Gusto coffee pods.

With Nespresso you can only buy the coffee from Nespresso directly, or certified outlets. This means that you are subject to their prices, and once you have the machine they have you at their mercy. However at 35 cents a cup it’s cheaper by far than the Keurig pots. The coffee is great, and as an all round package it gets my vote for best pod espresso machine.
