An office coffee
machine may seem like a luxury to give to the staff, however
consider the cost of lost productivity when making coffee and running out to the local coffee shop for essential
caffeine. Spending a little money on an automated office coffee
machine could end up saving a considerable lost office hours
during the course of the year. It is a common complaint that there are not enough hours in the day; a coffee
machine could effectively give you more.
When considering the model of office coffee machine, don’t be immediately drawn
to the lowest cost option. Whilst staff will praise you for bringing a coffee machine to the office, it will have
the opposite effect if they are made to drink poor quality coffee. A little extra money goes a long way in terms of
staff morale. The key points in question are the speed of making coffee and the price per cup; it’s all about time
and money. All other features and benefits are a bonus.
In reality, the best solution is to spend a little more and reap
the rewards in the long term. An office coffee
machine must heat up quickly and have a good supply of water,
preferably from the mains. It needs to be easy to clean, economical to run, and produce a constant stream of coffee
to avoid lost work time.
In terms of operating cost, in an office of 20 people, where each
person has 4 cups a day the costs can mount. Nespresso would cost the company $200 a week, plus the cost of the
machine, a further $250 to $800. In 12 weeks you would have covered the cost of a Keurig B3000 plumbed office
brewer ($1,100). In 7 months you would have paid the same as a large staff paid office coffee machine, with a range of drinks at
around $6,000. Incidentally, this will end up making a substantial proportion of its cost back over time as well,
and will eventually make a profit.
In conclusion, only consider a Nespresso if love every one of your
staff without question or it’s a small family business. A plumbed coffee maker supplies a never-ending supply of
well priced coffee, and a vending machine is practical and economical, but will have to be squeezed into a monthly
budget report.
